QR codes: Where are they now?
At the weekend I was on a visit to Hythe in Hampshire. A lovely little town on the edge of the New Forest and the sea. It was not the place I was expecting to see a QR code. The QR code I saw, which surprised me, was on a business card advertising the cafe I was sitting in. Using the reader on my mobile phone to access the information on the QR code I was taken to their facebook page to read all about Sea Shells, their menu and services. A great use of the QR code for restaurants. Are you using a QR code for your business yet?
Take a look at an earlier post to discover more about QR codes . Increasingly smart phones have readers installed but if you’ve yet to have one on your phone click here to find out how to get one. Have fun pointing the camera on your smart phone towards these black and white images to access the information they store. To get you started point your QR code reader on the QR code to the right of this post and discover all the ways to use QR codes in your business. I’m a great believer in QR codes for business. You can fit so much information within such a small space and send customers to your website, facebook page or anywhere else you choose. They work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week promoting your business.
Where have you seen QR codes? Do let me know in your comments below.

You know I love the whole QR code concept, but I have to be honest – so far the only place I’ve seen them is online … in articles about QR codes. Of course part of that could be because I live on an Island – things do tend to take awhile to catch up here – but still I honestly would have thought I’d be seeing a lot more actual QR codes by now. Still, I’m planning to create new business cards after the holidays and intend to incorporate a QR code.

Hi Marquita
I was surprised when I saw the qr code. I live in a part of England that is considered about 10 years behind London so I was surprised to see one. I’m expecting to see a lot more of them with the Olympics being hosted in the UK in 2012 though.
I admit I am not saavy with these QR codes. It is definitely a whole new world. I do have a maker just haven’t used it. I do know the younger crowd like them.

Hi Lynda
I surprised my teenage boys when they saw a qr code on a flyer the other day and their mother knew what it was and was explaining it to them. Rather funny to see their surprised faces.
Hi Anne:
This is an area that I have no knowledge or experience in. I have seen these codes everywhere but because I don’t have a smart phone I can’t utilize them.
Hopefully one day that will change!

I’m sure once you get a smart phone Kevin you’ll have fun reading the QR codes – they’ll be around for a while no doubt
It is amazing what they can do now. Pretty soon I can see us all having a bar code attatched to ourselves as identification. Good post will be back for more great info.

Hi Darryl
as long as we don’t get them tattooed. Thanks for sharing.
Like Marty, I have never seen one of those codes except online. I too live in an isolated area. Only an hour from the city where my husband works, but I seldom go there. My weekly jaunts are to church in a small town of 6000, almost half an hour from home!
I don’t have a smart phone, but I hope to have one some day. And until I do, I enjoy reading posts like yours that tell me what is in store for me.

Hi Willena
thanks for sharing. Over time no doubt the QR code will evade all areas as more and more smart phones become available to people.
Hi Anne,
It’s great to be up on the latest technology so thanks for your great post. I’m sure Dave already has a QR Reader on his iPhone, but thanks to your post, I now do as well. What a great way to communicate with customers.
I have seen QR codes in more spots than just online and apparently that will continue in the very near future. It is unfortunate though for those who do not yet have a smart phone. We certainly can’t rely on this new very cool method of communication, but it does reach and connect with those who are up on new technology for sure.
Thanks for getting me up on QR codes!

Hello yes, isn’t it just incredible the way businesses are using QR codes these days?
Here in France even they are springing up all over the place and you know when businesses in rural France are using them they will become HUGE!

I would imagine so Sadie. Thanks for your input. I saw them on a bus stop sign this weekend. you could download bus timetables using a qr code.
hi Anne, I must admit, I have been sitting on the sidelines when it comes to QR codes thinking, hey, they look great but I don’t really know anyone who is actively using them. Your article proves they are catching on and we’d all better think smart and start catching up

Great post, thanks
ps, I love the New Forest too

Hi Mandy
like with much new technology it takes a while before it becomes mainstream. there are always early adopters of technology before general usage occurs. I’m curious about the effect of the olympics on qr codes. We’ll have to see.
I like also QR code concept but to be honest I haven;t seen them. I must admit though that I haven’t search for them very strictly. But as far as I can see they are a bit difficult to be found. Why’s that?

Hi Anna
QR codes are an up and coming technology that hasn’t gained main stream acceptance yet. No doubt they will become a lot more popular over the coming months since they convey so much information in such a small space
